This is one I wish I'd discovered earlier, although it's been with me for a few years now. It will also make you feel like a Jedi in the yard.
• Cordless Reciprocating Saw [+]
• Pruning Blade
I'm a huge fan of both the Makita LXT series and the Milwaukee M18 series. The LXT was a little earlier to mass-market, so I got hooked on that, but the M18 series now has bested them with more serious accessories... but either will serve the typical DIYer well -- and much, much better than a lower-tier brand.
What many folks don't know is that there are lots of other accessories for this type of saw including tile chipping blades... and landscape pruning blades.
With a pruning blade loaded in the reciprocating saw, you can prune up a small tree in a matter of minutes. I gave my neighbor's apple tree it's first much-needed haircut in about a decade and I think it took me, maybe, 10 minutes and I barely broke a sweat. I seriously felt like I was holding a light-saber. It was amazing.
Of course, you can do the same with a corded model, but the freedom that the cordless offers, plus the good balance is quite nice — even a one-handed cut is possible and the saw can do all of the work.
The blades are available all over the place, but Home Depot is currently running a BOGO offer on their Diablo blades, so it's a pretty good deal.
So, save yourself some headache and feel like a Jedi at the same time.
